Christmas at Hampshire House

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We sure had a lot of fun here at Hampshire House. We attended many programs centered around a Christmas theme. We played Christmas song bingo and Christmas bingo, sang "Must Be Santa", learned about raindeer and more. One of the most popular things to do was to ride around town and see the Christmas lights. We had many groups in to sing Christmas carols and we watched a video of the Radio City Rocketts performing the Christmas show.
Our Christmas party was great! Santa came and gave everyone a present. Then we had drawings for special gifts and everyone got one of those too. The party ended with two young boys who read "The Night Before Christmas" to us. What a fun day.

Christmas fun.

Christmas is just around the corner and we have many special programs we are looking forward to. Several groups are scheduled to come in and sing to us. We always enjoy them so much, especially the school groups. Oh, we won third prized with our gingerbread house of Lincoln Logs. We were so proud! There were many very nice entries.

We visited the Festival of Trees. It was such a fun evening. We took our supper with us and sat and ate it down there. We not only got to see all the beautiful trees and vote on the one we liked the best but we also decorated cookies (we ate them for dessert) and made center pieces that we got to bring home. We had our pictures taken with Santa Clause and Mrs Clause read us a story.

Getting ready for Christmas

Hi everyone!
Here at Hampshire House we are getting ready for Christmas as I imagine you are all doing the same. Last Monday evening we made gingerbread houses. What fun we had doing that. We made several little ones out of graham crackers.

Some folks worked on a big one that we entered into the contest down town. The theme this year was classic toys. We chose to Lincoln Logs as our project. Many folks remembered playing with them as children. We used tootsie rolls as the lincoln logs. The rest of the gingerbread was made from gingerbread and decorated with lots and lots of candy.

Saturday we decorated the facility. Many of our friends and family came in to help us. We decorated four trees, one for each living room. After the decorating was complete we had a snack and then sang Christmas carols. It was such a fun day!

Thanksgiving Craft

We are getting in the spirit of Thanksgiving. We decorated the bulletin board with all things to do with Thanksgiving and wrote what we are thankful for.
The residents wrote the following:
"We are most thankful for our families and friends and all they do for us. We have great children-great! They are thoughtful and caring. They phone, come by and take us on outings. We are thankful to be living here at Hampshire House where we have no worries. We are thankful for the staff, who are caring and helpful. We are grateful for each new day and all that it brings."
I have included some pictures of some of the residents working on a craft. Please visit us at www.hampsirehouseacf.com.

Veteran's Day

We had a great time celebrating Veteran's Day. We have 6 residents who are veterans. We honored the veterans by name and mentioned the branch of service that they were in and then we talked a little about what they did during the war. Next we all shared the cupcakes that were decorated by the residents in red, white and blue sprinkles. We then had special music that featured, what else, patriotic songs.

What a great time we had at our Halloween Party! We danced until the "cows came home" as one resident put it. Everyone dressed up in a costume, even the staff.

fall fun

Hi everyone!
We have been very busy lately. We took a couple of fall rides to see the leaves, although this year they have not been very pretty. It was nice to get out and ride around the countryside.
Saturday we made snacks that looked like lady bugs. We used apples, raisins, pretzel sticks and peanut butter for glue. They were fun to make and were healthy to eat.

During Assisted Living week we played Rock, Paper, Scissors. Several of the staff joined in. We used buttons that advertised the Assisted Living week. Everyone started out with 3 buttons. The resident that collected the most buttons at the end of the game won a t-shirt. We gave out the prize at our fondue party.

Grandparents' Brunch

I hope you all enjoyed the video we posted last time. The residents made up the words and we had some grandchildren sing them to the tune of "Hello Dolly". We had fun making up the song. The pictures were donated by some of the residents and some we took of visiting grandchildren.

We showed the video at our Grandparents' Brunch. The food was so good at the brunch, especially the french toast. The residents made it the day before. What a great start we have had to the Assisted Living Week.

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend. On Saturday we spent time playing the Wii Play and playing the reminiscing game. Monday we learned all about Labor Day and where it came from. We had two bowlers hit a high of 278! More on that later. I'll get a picture for you.

On Tuesday we had a visit from Pastor Pallatta and his great harmonica band. I have posted some pictures of that for you. One of our residents who also plays the harmonica was asked to join the band! What fun.

s'mores

Hi everyone!
The summer is coming to an end. We are still enjoying what is left of it. We made s'mores last week and reminisced about camping and making the s'mores over the campfire. It was fun making them but it was more fun eating them!

A fun week

Tuesday we went blueberry picking. There were a lot of berries. While we picked we talked about how we used to pick berries and all the good things we made with them. We picked 13 lbs in an hour. We brought them back to Hampshire House and everyone enjoyed the "fruits of our labor". We ate them fresh in a dish and the kitchen also made blueberry coffee cake. They were so good!
Thursday we had some very special entertainment. Joe Trionfero came and presented his game show for seniors, "Thanks for the Memories". It was a lot of fun.

a fun day

Last Thursday we had a very busy day. It was Mexican Day! The kitchen served Mexican food and the activities in the afternoon were all centered around a Mexican theme. We did the hat dance, passed the hot jalapeno pepper to Mexican music, guessed how many beans there were in the jar as well as pulled the ribbons on the Pinata.

In the evening we went to the concert in the park. It was a great one. Sidney Community Band played. They have won many prizes around the area with their playing and we sure could see why.
